Your thoughts vs. God’s Truth

Updated: Aug 6, 2023

One thing I’ve learned on this fertility journey, honestly on this Christian journey is that the enemy will work over time to deceive the minds of God’s people. He will sow little lies here and there knowing that if he’s got your mind, he’s got you exactly where he wants you. The problem with that is your thoughts shape your life. Your negative thoughts, if harbored upon, create strongholds and entrap you into believing falsehoods that go against what God says.

The Bible says “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.”  (Prov 23:7) There’s a quote that says “Watch your thoughts, they become words.” The more that you think and meditate on something, whether negative or positive, the more you believe it and it literally becomes apart of you. Because of this truth, I have become extremely intentional and cautious about my thoughts and I do my best to correct them before they become words spoken over myself and my situation. For example, I do my best not to label myself as infertile or even say I struggle with infertility. Why? Because although I know what I see presently, I know that is not what God sees nor what He says about me. And no, I’m not in denial, I understand that death and life is in the power of my tongue. (Prov. 18:21) Furthermore, I believe the report of the Lord and that the Lord is bigger than any mountain of sickness or disease, so why should I give it power that it doesn’t deserve?

I remember a few years ago when it seemed like the enemies lies were louder than any other voice or words spoken to me and the Lord took me to 2 Corinthians 10:5. I read it and was like what does this even mean right now? The Lord told me every single time I had one of those dark negative thoughts to replace it with His truth. I remember, I went to find colorful sharpies and found scriptures that spoke to my situation and began writing on my closet door with us right next to my side of the bed. I know when my husband came home, he was like “what in the world!” Lol but he began reading, he understood. After I wrote them, I sat in my bed reading them all multiple times and weeping because in that moment I didn’t believe any of it because I was harboring in all the lies that the enemy spoke. After that, I would wake daily to read the scriptures and anytime those lies creeped in, I would just read at least one of the scriptures. There were days I would just cry because the battlefield in my mind was so dark and heavy, but I fought through it with the Word of God and being in God’s presence. I would even journal all my feelings and thoughts no matter what they were just to get them out and then I would meditate on scripture and biblical affirmations

That is how you tear down negative thoughts. You must literally replace them with truth and positive thoughts until you believe the truth. The thing about our thoughts, especially when they become words, is that they are so powerful that our bodies internalize it and conform to those thoughts. You ever heard of the experiment of having two plants, speaking negatively to one and positively to another? Years ago I did that experiment and was presently surprised at how each plant responded. The negative words plant wilted and died quickly, and the positive plant live and thrived longer. I honestly did not think it would work, also because I have a horrible green thumb lol, but also because it didn’t seem like such a big nor accurate thing. I was presently surprised though, and since then I’ve always tried to be mindful of what I say and declare over myself. Yes, because every word spoken over you is a declaration, something that you have come into agreement with. Which is also why I am quick to rebuke when someone says certain things about me, and I don’t come into agreement with it.

I wrote all that to say, be wise and intentional about tearing down any thoughts that exalt itself against the truth of God. Be wise and intentional about allowing those negative thoughts to become words that you declare over yourself. Don’t allow the enemy to entrap you in his web of lies, keeping you bound to falsehoods and false identities of who you are. What does God say about you? What does God say about your situation? And no, it doesn’t mean you’re in denial about what you see or even feel, it just means that you trust God and His Word more than you trust what you see. For NOW FAITH is the the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

I challenge you to find 5 scriptures about your situations and begin to declare it daily, multiple times a day until it literally becomes apart of you and you declare it without hesitation.
